Do acts of kindness make you feel like dancing? Are you looking for an inspiring way to spend a Sunday afternoon with family, friends, neighbors, and even people you don’t yet know from your community? Would you like to feel connected to people all around the world who feel the same way you do? If so, then mark the calendar and put on your dancing shoes, because the Dance for Kindness is back!
Dance for Kindness was established by Life Vest Inside, a non-profit organization dedicated to inspiring, empowering, and educating people of all backgrounds to lead a life of kindness. Founded in 2011 by the dream of middle school teacher Orly Wahba to bring the world together through the power of kindness, the movement has grown globally and now includes a number of unique initiatives.
One of the flagship initiatives is the annual Dance for Kindness – essentially a worldwide flashmob event that kicks off World Kindness Week, which begins this year on November 10, 2019. The dance brings out more than 20,000 dancers from more than 50 countries in 120 locations across the globe, who come together to perform the same song and same dance – all happening on the same day – to promote the idea of looking beyond the boundaries that divide us and realizing that as citizens of the world, kindness is the common thread that unites us all.
Here in Monmouth County, the 8th Annual Dance for Kindness will take place once again in Red Bank, NJ on Sunday, November 10, 2019 from 12 to 2 pm. Participants of all ages will gather on Broad Street between White and Mechanic Streets to share in the exuberance of kindness and an atmosphere of positive energy and upbeat unity. For those who are repeat dancers, the event has become a reunion of sorts that everyone looks forward to eagerly.
Each year’s Dance for Kindness is unique, with the steps available on the organization website, and in addition to it being a flashmob, it’s also a freezemob, where attendees are given a specific “kindness position” in which to freeze for three minutes.
The organizers of every Dance for Kindness group is also encouraged to select a local charity that will receive 10% of the day’s proceeds for that area.
You say you can’t dance? There are many other ways you can help the initiative with your own special talents, as well. Or you can simply make a point of being there and getting caught up in witnessing this very special spectacle!
