For Resources Real Estate, success means more than helping clients to buy and sell homes. Through the efforts of the agency’s charitable arm, the Carolynn Ozar Diakon Foundation, it also means helping people to succeed in their pursuit of educational or career opportunities – particularly women throughout the community who need support while facing life’s challenges. That is the mission of a new partnership between Resources Real Estate and the Lunch Break Life Skills Center, with the establishment of the Carolynn Ozar Diakon Foundation Scholarship for Life Skills Program participants.
The Life Skills Program is one of the initiatives at Lunch Break in Red Bank, NJ, a non-profit organization that provides food, clothing, life skills, and fellowship to those in need in Monmouth County and beyond. The program offers training and business partnerships that allow participants to acquire and maintain meaningful employment while improving future career prospects. Available services include resume and cover letter preparation, interview and computer skills, life and goal planning, ESL tutoring, budget counseling, legal planning, and more.
The Carolynn Ozar Diakon Foundation was created in March 2019 to support the philanthropic interests of the beloved late founder of Resources Real Estate. Its focus is to empower women facing life challenges of all kinds while promoting the legacy and values of Carolynn Ozar Diakon, who served on the boards and committees of multiple local nonprofits and supported many people in need. Foundation board members are excited to offer their resources to the Life Skills Center at Lunch Break and the community at large.
The Carolynn Ozar Diakon Foundation Scholarship will help provide financial support for qualifying women enrolled in the Life Skills Program to help them overcome obstacles to employment. Funding is available for transportation costs such as car down payments, insurance, DMV fees, and driver’s education; childcare costs; continuing education prep classes and testing fees for GED, certification and vocational programs, and higher education; and other significant challenges to be evaluated based upon need.
Resources Real Estate Senior Partner and Broker Thomas McCormack stated, “We are all so very pleased to honor the legacy of our founder Carolynn Ozar Diakon by creating this partnership between the Life Skills Center at Lunch Break, the Carolynn Ozar Diakon Foundation, and Resources Real Estate. The foundation’s mission of aiding women facing life challenges is one that was important to Carolynn and continues to be important to all of us at Resources Real Estate. ”
Mary Ann LaSardo, Life Skills Operations Manager at Lunch Break, added, “We anticipate this scholarship will be life-changing for many of our participants and we are so excited about this new partnership with Resources Real Estate!”
Enrolled Life Skills participants who need financial support to enhance their career or education opportunities may complete the scholarship application with assistance from their Life Skills coach. Once the application has been reviewed and approved by the Life Skills Coordinator, it will be forwarded to Resources Real Estate for final approval. Approved funding will be sent directly to the organization in need of payment, with metrics of success shared monthly with Resources Real Estate and the Carolynn Ozar Diakon Foundation.
