Throughout the month of May, Meridian Health launched a 23-town initiative to raise awareness about the importance of annual mammograms in the fight against breast cancer. The signature event of the Paint the Town Pink program was a very special appearance, dubbed “The Little Things: An Evening with Giuliana and Bill Rancic” by the celebrity couple on May 4, 2013 at the Algonquin Arts Theatre in Manasquan, NJ.
Donald Trump’s original “Apprentice,” Bill Rancic is now an entrepreneur and international speaker. As anchor and managing editor of E! News, Giuliana Rancic reports on celebrity news and has hosted many red carpet events. Together, they have co-authored a book and currently appear on their own popular reality program on Style, “Giuliana & Bill.” These days, one of the Rancics’ most important projects is sharing the story of how a mammogram unexpectedly, and dramatically, changed their lives when it detected Giuliana’s breast cancer – and how important the countless “little things” in life really are.
During a private media gathering before their public appearance, the couple fielded numerous questions and gave candid insight into their courtship, their marriage, parenthood to their infant son Duke, their experience dealing with challenging medical issues while working in a very public forum, and more. They also discussed plans for their visit to New York City and their impressions of the Jersey shore. The chemistry between them was captivating, filled with gentle humor, upbeat optimism, and mutual admiration and affection for one another. One of the final questions posed to them gave them thoughtful pause: “If you could choose just one word to describe each another, and one word to describe your son, what would it be?” Bill said that his word for Duke would be “lifesaver,” because it was the medical testing prior to his birth that revealed Giuliana’s breast cancer and ultimately saved her life. For his wife, Bill’s word – proudly – was “survivor.” Giuliana chose the word “Superman” for Bill, “because he can do it all.” For their son, the word was simply “everything.”
Following the media event, the festivities officially kicked off with a fabulous VIP cocktail party at Firefly, a lovely restaurant across the street from the Algonquin Arts Theatre, where guests had the opportunity to have their photos taken with Giuliana and Bill on the “pink carpet.” Later, the crowd moved on into the theater, where the couple further delighted the large public audience with the story of their life together and the joys to be had in those very special, very precious “little things.”
