Local residents and visitors know that the beauty of Monmouth County is a feast for the eyes. And the mission of the Art Society of Monmouth County, a nonprofit, membership-based volunteer organization, is to highlight even more local beauty through programs that promote education and appreciation of the visual arts in our area.
This month, the Art Society of Monmouth County is holding its annual “Oldies but Goodies and Copy Cats” exhibit at the Middletown Township Public Libraryy, with members’ artwork on display from March 4 through March 30. The exhibit will feature works in watercolor, oil, acrylic, pastel, photography, and other media, including a unique new category entitled “Copy Cats,” showcasing artwork in various media that depict copies of famous pieces of art.
A closing reception, open to the public, will be held on Saturday, March 30 from 1 to 3 pm, where awards will be presented.
From April 1 through April 27, the Art Society of Monmouth County will present its Ruth Crown Memorial Exhibit, held in memory of artist Ruth Crown and sponsored by the Crown Family. A reception is scheduled for Saturday, April 27 from 1 to 3 pm. At press time, details were still to be announced.
On January 26, the Art Society of Monmouth County held its annual awards ceremony for the Toni Wilczewski Memorial Photography Exhibit, which was held throughout the month of January at the Middletown Township Public Library. More than 60 guests attended the ceremony to view the 49 photographs on display. The memorial exhibit was held in honor of Toni Wilczewski, a past president and treasurer of the Art Society of Monmouth County.
Award recipients were: Best in Show – Marilyn Baldi Second Place – Siobhan Smith; Third Place – David Levy; Whimsy – Bob Warwick. Ten Achievement Awards were also presented.
The Art Society of Monmouth County is a nonprofit, 501(C)3, membership-based volunteer organization that exists to promote the education and appreciation of the visual arts in Monmouth County, New Jersey. Six meetings are held each year, where members can meet with fellow artists and exchange ideas. At these meetings, members benefit from experiencing professional art demonstrations of various media techniques. These meetings are open to the public and are held at various locations in Monmouth County, such as the Middletown Township Public Library, the Monmouth Beach Cultural Center, and the Monmouth County Library Eastern Branch in Shrewsbury.
More than 100 active members from throughout the community participate in exhibitions at various venues in Monmouth County, both juried and non-juried. Its diverse membership displays talents in all visual arts, including oil, acrylic, pastels, drawings, watercolor, photography, sculpture, and mixed media. In addition, an annual scholarship award is provided for a college student who is enrolled in a Visual Arts Program.
All patrons and enthusiasts of the arts, from students to adults and novices to professionals, are welcome to join and participate in meetings and activities. Meetings and demonstrations are usually held on the third Wednesday of the month from September until May at either the Monmouth Beach Cultural Center, located at 128 Ocean Avenue, or the Middletown Township Public Library, 55 New Monmouth Road.
