Rockin’ Lineup Planned for “Believe” Concert to Benefit Nonprofit Organization Because She Is

House of Independents in Asbury Park, NJ, one of the area’s hottest performance venues, will be the site of a special benefit concert, entitled “Believe,” to be held on Sunday, May 19, 2019. Proceeds of the event will benefit Because She Is, a local nonprofit organization that offers free peer support services and a social network for survivors of physical, emotional, and/or sexual assault or abuse. Meetings are held in a welcoming home called Marilyn’s Place.

Organized by award-winning Jersey shore hip-hop artist and spoken word poet Chris Rockwell and Brian Morelli, on-air personality and host of the popular Morning Tailgate program on Thunder 106 Radio, the concert will feature a terrific lineup of performers known throughout the area. They will include The Godlings, a progressive surf rock band; hip-hip artist King Ramses; 3 Cheers Too Late, an alternative pop punk band; and We’re Ghosts Now, an indie/alternative/rock group. Also appearing will be Natalie Farrell, a singer known for her mix of soul, rhythm and blues, jazz, and rock; R&B funk-rock favorites Des & The Swagmatics; and of course, the Chris Rockwell Collective.

“I love bringing the community together in one room to support each other,” Rockwell explains. “Usually it’s strangers helping strangers, and that’s a true testament to the vitality of our local scene.” The idea of a benefit concert seems particularly fitting to Maureen Richards Spataro, founder of Because She Is, who notes, “Music was always my saving grace from my abuse, and Because She Is has opened a location where others can heal from their abuse. What Chris and Brian have done is create an event that allows me to spread the word about what this organization is doing for the community in an environment that celebrates music, which was instrumental in saving my life. They have made my dream come true.”

For the May 19 event, doors open at 4 p.m. and performances will begin at 4:15 p.m. Tickets are $15 in advance through www.houseofindependents.com and $18 at the door. All ages welcome; age 21+ to drink. House of Independents is located at 572 Cookman Avenue in Asbury Park, NJ.
