Holmdel Community Day & HYAA Opening Day Cancelled
It was a damp disappointment on Saturday, April 13, when the Holmdel Recreation Office had to cancel the annual festivities that had been planned for the 2019 Holmdel Community Day & HYAA Opening Day. The wet weather, which has marred so many other outdoor events, struck yet again and, although the sun did manage to come out that day after the rain let up, the grounds were too saturated to hold the event. No new date has been scheduled.
Flashlight Egg Hunt
Daytime activities may have been called off for Holmdel Community Day, but Mother Nature was kinder on the evening of April 18, when the township held its first-ever Flashlight Egg Hunt at Cross Farm Park. Throngs of happy kids and their families turned out to enjoy music, arts and crafts, face painting, a limbo pole, an inflatable bounce house, and a chance to spend some time visiting with the Easter Bunny as well as McGruff the Crime Dog and Officer Friendly. As the sun set over the park, flashlights lit up and cameras clicked as the youngsters – organized into different age groups – excitedly dashed around and scoured the field, searching for as many eggs as possible to collect in their baskets and bags.

Giving Toys a Second Chance
Holmdel Township has partnered with the nonprofit organization Second Chance Toys to help collect gently used plastic toys that can be distributed to children in need throughout our area. The township has a large shipping container at the Department of Public Works yard, located at 14 Crawfords Corner Road, where residents can drop off donated plastic toys. They are being collected every Friday from 9 am to 1 pm. Once collected, the toys will be cleaned up, refurbished, and given to local families by Second Chance Toys later in the year. Acceptable toys must be made entirely of plastic, have clean surfaces and no missing parts, and, if battery-operated, must function when batteries are inserted. Toys that cannot be accepted include anything made of cloth or fabric (including stuffed animals), slides, pools, sand boxes, car seats, and fast food toy items such as McDonald’s Happy Meal prizes. For more information about Second Chance Toys, visit www.secondchancetoys.org.
Need a Notary?
The township provides convenient, free notary services at town hall from 8:30 am to 4:30, Monday through Friday. The person requiring the notarization and signing the document must appear in person to the notary and present photo ID such as a driver’s license or passport.
