Free Clinician-Led Workshops and Art Therapy Events Available for Trauma Survivors
Because She Is, a non-profit volunteer organization that provides free support services for survivors of physical, emotional, and sexual assault and abuse, will be hosting two clinician-led workshops and a series of art therapy sessions in September and October, all at no cost. Participants are invited from throughout the Middlesex and Monmouth County, NJ area.
The workshops will be conducted by Geraldine “Gerry” Viggiani, LCSW, LCADC, PMH-C. She is a psychotherapist and owner of Lotus Blossom Psychotherapy, LLC in Eatontown, NJ, specializing in trauma, addiction, and perinatal mood disorders and birth trauma.
On Friday, September 20, 2019, the workshop topic will be Trauma and Shame…How It Impacts Our Life. Participants will be guided in looking at how the emotion of shame impacts our lives in the wake of trauma. On Wednesday, October 16, 2019, the workshop topic will be The Effects of Trauma: How our Decisions and Reactions are Rooted in our Trauma.
Both workshops will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. at Marilyn’s Place, the home for Because She Is, in South Amboy, NJ. The confidential location is conveniently and easily accessible for attendees from throughout central New Jersey. Workshops are free of charge and light refreshments will be served. Seating is limited; please email info@becausesheis.org to reserve your spot and for additional details.
Because She Is will also be hosting a three-part art therapy series, presented by Elissa Arbeitman, MA, ATR-BC at her studio, Wild & Free Painting, located at 660 Tennent Road, Suite 209, Manalapan, NJ. Participants may attend one or all three.
The first session is scheduled for Wednesday, September 25, 2019 from 6 to 8 p.m. (Subsequent dates to be announced.) As survivors of trauma, participants will have a unique opportunity to express themselves through their artwork. Art has the power to foster self-esteem and self-awareness, cultivate emotional resilience, promote insight, enhance social skills, reduce and resolve conflicts and distress, and advance societal change. The art therapy sessions are also free of charge and seating is limited to eight guests per session. Please email info@becausesheis.org to reserve your spot.
